New Cancer Center Coming in Late 2008

Ground was broken on January 8 for the new San Juan Regional Cancer Center. The planned building, over 15,000 square feet, will provide spacious, modern areas for radiation oncology services, cancer prevention classes and support services to cancer patients. Construction is slated to be completed by October 2008 and to be operational the following month. View Construction Photos

IMRT: A Breakthrough in Radiation Therapy

Dr. NgyunIntensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is a great advance in radiation oncology. Radiation oncologists can now deliver stronger radiation therapy directly to the tumor while reducing the adverse side effects of radiation treatment. Caring for Cancer

In 1987, the vision of a quality, regional cancer program was realized with completion of the San Juan Regional Cancer Center. Since then, the Cancer Center has faithfully pursued its mission to ensure that the most compassionate, state-of-the-art care for cancer is readily accessible where it's needed the most - close to home for all who live in the Four Corners. In 1994, our facility was honored to become the only cancer program in the region accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Striving for Continued Excellence

The Cancer Center staff is a team of highly skilled professionals whose excellence and dedication are evident. Each physician is Board certified in their area of specialty with membership in various medical societies. The nursing staff is composed of only experienced Registered Nurses. San Juan Regional Cancer Center has positioned itself to be at the forefront of the newest treatment methods.

The Personal Touch

When cancer strikes, it not only brings physical distress to the patient; their families suffer emotional distress and often financial hardship as well. The staff at the Cancer Center work diligently to identify and meet patient and family needs on an individual basis. Be it help with housing during treatment, transportation, social services, interpreters or financial counseling, the Cancer Center's team can offer assistance and guidance. Support groups for the emotional support of patients, family members and friends are organized and provided through the Center.

Caring for Body, Mind, and Spirit

As our patients and their families know so well, cancer's effects are not just physical. Thus, because cancer affects the whole person, treatment must address the whole person. That knowledge is not just reflected in the care we provide at San Juan Regional Cancer Center, but in the Center itself. One example is the garden, which offers those receiving chemotherapy the healing benefits of sun, sky and New Mexico's natural splendor throughout the seasons.
